Maxi Style #OOTD

This outfit is the ultimate lazy/easy/breezy summer outfit, perfect for traveling or vacation or just wanting to feel like you’re wearing pajamas ALLLLL day long.  It does not get much easier than this….

This dress + hat + jewels formula works with all of those simple, inexpensive sundresses that are available in abundance in stores this time of year.  You could also throw a denim jacket or cardigan over it in fall or if temps drop at night.

I should have done a shot from the back but you can just barely see my leopard and lace print cami bralette.  It’s made to be seen–or at least that’s what I tell myself.

My Stella & Dot Engravable Necklace is personalized to say “BE LOVE” and you can see it close up in this post.

My nails are blue ikat nails strips that are no longer available at Sephora (unless you go to a store and find them in the clearance bin like I did ;)).  These are extremely similar.

So there you have it, one of the most practical and stylish yet ridonculously simple summer outfits evah!

My First StitchFix Review – July 2014

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy here.

This weekend after waiting for what felt like FOREVER (2 months + 2 days from when I signed up), I received my very first “Fix” from StitchFIx.  Now, I might be a little late to the StitchFix party but I was hesitant to try it.  See I, really really enjoy shopping for/styling myself and didn’t really think that StitchFix would be all that useful….until month after month of seeing my friends’ Fixes.  They were all so happy with the new styles they were being introduced to combined with the awesomeness outfit delivery and part of me wanted a piece of that.

Stitch Fix

In case you are unfamiliar, StitchFix is an online women’s personal styling service where you…

  • fill out a style profile
  • get five hand-picked items sent to your home where you try them on
  • then decide what you want to keep (and pay for)

You schedule your fixes however often you want them (not necessarily a subscription if that’s not your thing) and pay a $20 styling fee which turns into credit towards your order.  If you decide to keep all 5 items, you’ll get them at a 25% discount.

It’s all very personalized, fun, and improves with every Fix as you leave feedback for your stylist.

Here’s a letter from my stylist along with styling tips for each piece.
My First StitchFix Review - July 2014

{ 1. Renee C Jaimie Eyelet Striped Cardigan – $48 }

This off-white cardigan gave me mixed feelings….while I absolutely adore cardigans this one just a little too dare.I.say “granny” for my tastes.  Even though I own at least 5 lace cardigans, I wasn’t crazy about the eyelet texture and while I loved this cardigan from the side with it’s asymmetrical cut, the view from the front was another story (more on that later).

My First StitchFix Review - July 2014

{ 2. Kensie Jeans Sophia Tall Length Skinny Jean – $88 }

These skinny jeans are perfection.  Especially because my favorite pair of skinny jeans have become a bit too distressed after years of wear and tear.

My First StitchFix Review - July 2014

{ 3. Eight Sixty Kanni Highlow Printed Maxi Dress – $88 }

Pretty but I just don’t love it.  I don’t think it flatters my body and it’s not a good enough reason to wear a strapless bra (I hate strapless bras btw).  The gold hardware on the neckline was a nice touch though.  I will let my stylist know that I prefer more fitted dress styles.

My First StitchFix Review - July 2014

And then….I guess I just wanted to make sure that I still didn’t like this cardigan.  Not. at. all.

My First StitchFix Review - July 2014

{ 4. Octavia Henry Birds on Branch Infinity Scarf – $28 }

Love it but do I need another infinity scarf?  Probably.  I already want to throw this on with my coral skinny jeans or pink shorts.

My First StitchFix Review - July 2014

{ 5. Tart Rochelle Ikat Print Soft Short – $68 }

These shorts look like so much fun and I would never give them a second look or try them on if I saw them in a store.  I tend to avoid prints and funny business on my lower half.  I was kind of shocked at how much I ended up loving these.

My First StitchFix Review - July 2014

What do YOU think?

My First StitchFix Review - July 2014

// VERDICT //

The infinity scarf (#4) was my only keeper.  While I loved the jeans (#2), the ONLY reason I’m not keeping them is because I don’t feel like buying or wearing dark jeans in July and I’ve got clothing budget priorities.  Also loved the shorts (#5) but I know I wouldn’t wear them enough to justify the $68.  I may keep my eyes peeled for a similar (less expensive) pair–I do appreciate the introduction to something that I wouldn’t usually go for.  I couldn’t get the cardigan (#1) and the dress #3 back into that return envelope quickly enough.

I was very pleased with my first Fix and it definitely won’t be my last!  I love shopping so much but I might actually like this even more *gasp*.  Ain’t nobody with small children got time to be running around stores.  A few quality pieces every now and then, delivered to my home feels pretty perfect for this stage of my life–and it’s just fun.

I also think that it’s pretty groovy that you can earn referral credit when your friends sign up through your link to offset the cost of your fixes.

Have you tried StitchFIx yet?

What I Wore: Spring/Summer Mom Outfit Idea

4-24 ootd 1

Yesterday was a typical “mom” day for me.  Kids were at school while I was at home filming videos (one makeup video and one hair video to be posted as soon as their edited) and then afterschool activities.  Mom days deserve mom outfits. I wore a vest that I probably got from Ross Dress for…
