This post is full of my recent spring/summer purchases with notes about fit and how I plan to style it for spring/summer 2016. Ever since I embraced capsule wardrobes and minimalist style, I buy WAY less clothing. These are the things you’ll see me styling over and over. I wanted to hurry and get them posted while they’re still available in stores.
TANK ($24) – I’m wearing a small. I also got it in the burnt sienna color. It’s a thin-ish rayon fabric with an breezy, light feel. I especially love how long it is and how it’s doing the high-low thing.
BRALETTE ($36.95) – I’m wearing a small. I’ve been in love with bralettes for a few summers now and was so excited to find one that offers support + style. I also love this halter style bralette (see how I wear it here). Both of these bralettes have a ‘pull-on’ fit and I have yet to gracefully get myself out of it but I love it regardless…more incentive to practice yoga.
EARRINGS ($20) – I love me some hoops and I was happy to break out of my basic style with these geometric, gold-plated hoops. They look like artwork in your ears and make any simple, pulled-back hairstyle look chic. I was afraid they’d be heavy but they’re not at all to me (I like earrings that I forget I’m wearing).
$79.50 $59.90) – I’m wearing a size 30. I bought these last summer, they were a staple and I wore them constantly. They fit shorter on me than they do on the model which is something I read in a review as well. My favorite shorts of all time are THESE ($78). I’ve had two pairs (white and pink) for two summers and I think they’re the perfect length for moms (and they fit close to you leg so you don’t have to worry about your butt being seen when you bend over).
GLADIATOR SANDALS ($99.99
) – These run true to size. As a gladiator sandal enthusiast, I’ve learned that when buying calf-high gladiators, the most important detail is that they stay up on your calves without you having to pull/tug at them alldamnday (been there, done that–not cute). It took me three tries to get them tied just right for my calves and I’d be more than happy to give you a tutorial if you need one (snapchat username: charmedvalerie). I crisscrossed then twisted each time I laced it around my leg (double-knot the top). I’ve worn them with the tassels tied in front and back (I think I prefer front for now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).
HANDBAG ($48) – As a lover of small purses, I was thrilled to pieces when I found this affordable (and mad stylish) FRINGE handbag. Of the black fringe purses I looked at, this was the darkest inkiest black. It can also be worn as a crossbody (perfect for summer adventures with my boys) or by the handles when I want to be a lady. This purse has the sort of style that could upgrade any basic outfit with beautiful boho flair.
RINGS ($18.00) – I haven’t bought rings in years but I love the look of these. Can’t say they’re mom-friendly because if you wash your hands a ton, you have to take them off constantly…
SUNGLASSES ($18.00) – I feel like I dreamt these oversized, cat-eye sunglasses into existence. I had this exact style in my head and when I finally found them (at an affordable price), I freaked out. LOVE them.
TEE ($34.00) – I’m wearing an X-small. I may dub this not-so-basic tee “the mullet” because it looks normal in the front with a little party in the back. The fit is flattering and gracefully grazes over that little “mommy area” of my lower abdomen. I love the neckline and that it hits at hip-length. I’m the pickiest person when it comes to “basic” tees and this one is perfection (I want it in gray and black too). I’m wearing a normal bra in this picture. This tee is my everything.
UTILITY VEST ($29.99) – I’m wearing a small. This cargo vest has a lightweight feel and I love that it ties at the waist. I’ve already worn it on the blog here and here in the week that I’ve owned it. Thanks to Pinterest you can see tons of different ways to style it. I was so inspired by Jo-lynne’s post about How To Wear a Utility Vest for Spring.
TANK DRESS ($19.99) – I’m wearing a small. This A-line tank dress could function as a swimsuit cover-up, easy summer outfit and/or you could dress it up for a night out. I will probably do a post about different ways to wear it. So perfect for vacations and spring/summer fun.
STRAPPY BIKINI TOP ($44.95) – I’m wearing a small. This top not only looks cool as hell, it’s got support (and push-up) and a waterslide-proof closure. This exact print is no longer available online.
HIGH-WAIST BIKINI BOTTOM ($34.95) – I’m wearing a large. I was in love with these on the hanger and mostly curious about what they’d look like on me when I tried them on. I ended up falling deeply and madly in love with them (the generous tummy/booty coverage was a major plus!).
BIRKENSTOCKS ($99.95) – I wrote more about those when I styled them here. They’re hella comfy, even more beautiful in person and I ordered a size down because my size (10) wasn’t available. They run big because the 9/9.5 works for me.
Hope you enjoyed this little haul. I’m planning to share how I go about curating my seasonal wardrobes but for now, I wanted to share what I’ve bought while it’s still readily available in stores.

Also, I started a facebook group called Mom Style Collective. It’s a private group for fashion-loving ladies (not just mom–but the lady part is mandatory) to talk about trends, post outfit inspiration, support and style each other. If this sounds like your jam, request to be added. We’d love to have you!
