I love learning about new ways to shop smarter and more efficiently. Sometimes that means coupons and sales, sometimes it means not buying crap that wasn’t meant for you in the first place. Here’s Cheri Botiz, National Director of Beauty and Fragrance for Nordstrom, to tell me all about how to do the latter with their Beauty Stylist program. Even if you’re not interested in shopping for beauty products you need to watch just to oogle at her magnificent skin….
Here is a [not exactly exact but mostly accurate] transcription:
Can you tell me more about Nordstrom Beauty Stylist?
We have Nordstrom Beauty Stylist, who are like personal stylists for beauty. Beauty Stylists can take you across all brands in our department and really handpick what’s specific for your skin type and your needs. You know how you love MAC and you love Bobbi Brown and you love shopping with those consultants to get information on their brand? Well sometimes, we don’t know what we want or what we need. Or you get overwhelmed because there’s so many choices. So you have a go-to person that’s knowledgeable about all brands and is just so helpful and everyone has just fallen in love with that program.
Do they send sale alerts and follow up with customers?
Yes, absolutely. We have our personal book system that’s set up for all of our employees to use to help follow up with customers. But the Beauty Stylist are definitely able to email customers, send you information out about upcoming sales, it’s just like a go-to person for beauty that has knowledge about all brands and really can service you, especially when you don’t know what you need or want or you’re just a little confused. Beauty evolves daily, new technologies are coming out all the time. I’m in this industry and I get lost about some of the new ingredients and what is right for my skin tone so it’s nice to go to a person and be able to get that information firsthand and have them pick things that are perfect for you. It’s a good thing to have because we really pride ourselves on having this opportunity for the customers to have someone to go to for that. They sample you on things if you’re not sure, so you’re able to try before you buy. Those are some of the things you’ll experience in our cosmetics department that you wouldn’t be able to experience anywhere else.
And IF you do end up with something that you aren’t 100% satisfied with?
Bring it back. We don’t have any rule behind that. If you’re not happy, bring it back.

*As a spelling nerd, I’m now almost certain that “stylists” with an “s” probably isn’t a word. Oops. Forgive?
