While I am a huge fan of fashion, I admit that I’m kind of unfamiliar with the designs of Marni. I am, however, extremely familiar with the fast-fashion retailer that is H&M (with stores all over Dallas now
) and I am a huge fan of their budget-friendly designer collaborations–the latest being Marni at H&M. The collection embodies everything that is on trend for Spring/Summer 2012 (and even Fall!) with the bonus being it’s wallet-friendliness. Below are my Top 10 Picks from the [women's] collection, prices, why I love them, how they can fit into any wardrobe, and when they’ll be available in stores.
1. BAG $39.95
This tote is my favorite piece from the entire collection. Due to the price, I can only assume it’s made from a a shiny plastic material but the colors are gorgeous, and the style is classic, functional….everything you want in a bag. Carry this with a neutral outfit consisting of grays, tans, light brown, and/or white.
2. JACKET $99
This geometric blue printed blazer is perfect for those of you who desire a bit of playfulness with your working wardrobe. I’d pair this with a white blouse, white or khaki pants, and a skinny red or yellow belt. The color looks a little darker in the lookbook picture (below).

3. WOOL CARDIGAN $69.95
A short-sleeved and ruffled approach to your average cardigan, I think this piece could add instant style to just about anything in the average wardrobe. I would definitely wear it with a belt to accentuate your waist and style it up a bit like the lookbook picture below (please let that be the only fashion tip you borrow from that look
).
4. EARRINGS $19.95
These spunky earrings are fun, artistic, a tiny bit bold, and bright but not too out there. They’d look amazing with a ponytail or messy bun.
5. LADY’S SILK SCARF $19.95
This orange and purple print scarf could be worn in your hair, around your neck, or tied around the handles of your favorite handbag (think #10). “Tangerine Tango” IS all the rage this year and this scarf has just enough for those of you who wish to play it safe.
6. BELT $9.95
This belt also comes in black but I’d venture to guess that your wardrobe could probably benefit from this stylish red skinny belt. Wear this with a black/white or navy/white dress….maybe even olive and definitely any neutrals.
7. NECKLACE $49.95
I love big chunky necklaces like this because they add a BIG punch of style to the plainest of clothing. Just try it. I’d have an easier time telling you what you shouldn’t wear with this necklace–ruffles (I just don’t think the sharp angles of this would work well with such a feminine element).
8. SILK TOP $59.95
This silk blouse might just be cute enough to make up for the fact that you’d have to wear a strapless bra with it. I’d pair with white or khaki shorts, capris, or pants. There are a pair of matching pink silk shorts in the collection but to me silk shorts are for pajamas (not to mention they’d give even the thinnest of women a killer case of “jiggly booty”).
9. BRACELET $29.95
I’m kind of assuming that the pair is $29.95 because of the way they were presented in the press materials. Either way, the colors are fab! I’d wear them separately with complementary neutral outfits that have turquoise or orange (depending on the bracelet) sprinkled throughout. Make sense?
10. BAG $79.95
Tangerine again, this time with brown lining and contrast stitching! I’ll go ahead and assume this is leather because of it’s price (I’ll correct this if I find out otherwise). it could be the perfect statement tote for this season. It would look great with neutrals, browns, and even navy.
Marni for H&M will launch in select stores and online March 8th. See the full lookbook here. Below is a video (shot by Sofia Coppola) that kind of helps give you a feel for the collection…I kind of think it’s a more inspiring and realistic approach than the more high-fashion looking lookbook buthatsjustme.
