Making Friendship Bracelets

I feel like I’m 28 going on 13 but while I’ve been vacationing on our annual Great Midwestern Road Trip*, I’ve taken up a new hobby–friendship bracelet making.  It’s the perfect road trip activity because you can do it while still interacting with people.

Alls you need is embroidery floss, scissors, and something to keep the bracelet-in-progress still while you’re working on it.

Back in the day. I would have taped it to a big book or safety pinned it to my jeans but I’ve recently discovered Friendship Bracelet Making Clip Boards that are PERFECTION for bracelet-making-on-the-go.  I found mine at Micheals Craft Store (it was originally $12.99 but I had a 40% off coupon from a week-old reciept) and I’ve also seen them in the kid craft area at Walmart and a friend saw one at Kroger.

There are tutorials all over the internet and YouTube to learn how to make different patterns but I’ve been sticking to the stripe pattern that came with the instructions for my clipboard (perhaps on the last leg of our journey, we’re in St. Louis now, I’ll branch out and make a chevron or something).

This is certain to be a short-lived hobby as I’ve got responsibilities to return to and a newborn on the way but it’s fun for now

When’s the last time you made a friendship bracelet?

* our road trip from Texas to Kansas City to Minnesota to St. Louis and back to Dallas.
